About Bluff Street Park in Minneapolis

Bluff Street Park is a 5.5-acre urban green space located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Situated on a wooded bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, the park offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape. It is part of the larger Central Mississippi Riverfront Regional Park system and is connected to other parks in the area through an extensive trail network.

The park's name comes from the abandoned Bluff Street, which once ran from the end of 20th Avenue South under the 10th Avenue Bridge. Remnants of this old roadbed can still be seen within the park. Prior to its official naming in 2009, the area was informally known as "Tank Holder #5 site".

A notable feature of Bluff Street Park is the Bedrock Bluff Prairie Restoration Area. In 2015, a 1.5-acre section of the park underwent restoration to reestablish native prairie vegetation, enhancing the park's ecological value and providing habitat for local wildlife.

The park's location near the historic St. Anthony Falls makes it a site of both natural and cultural significance. It is believed to be near an ancient portage route around the falls, potentially the spot where Father Louis Hennepin first observed the waterfall in 1680, which he named St. Anthony Falls.

Visitors to Bluff Street Park can enjoy walking and biking paths that wind through the restored prairie and wooded areas. The park's elevated position provides unique vantage points for observing the Mississippi River and the surrounding urban landscape.
