Historical Development
Originally acquired by the Minneapolis Park Board in 1921, Lynnhurst Park has undergone several developments and improvements over the years. The park was built on peat soil ranging from 6 to 37 feet deep, which posed challenges for construction and maintenance.

During the winter months, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board maintains ice skating and hockey rinks at the park.

The park's location along Minnehaha Creek and its proximity to Lake Harriet make it a key component of the local ecosystem and recreation network. It serves as a community gathering space and provides opportunities for both organized sports and casual outdoor activities.
