Located in the Windom neighborhood of south Minneapolis, Windom South Park is a cozy one-acre green space that sits right next to Windom School at the corner of 58th Street and Wentworth Avenue. Though small in size, this park is a cherished retreat for local families and residents looking for a quick outdoor escape.

A Bit of History

The story of Windom South Park actually begins back in 1928 when it was first proposed, but it wasn't until 1986 that the dream became reality. That's when the Minneapolis Park Board finally leased land from the school board to create a playground specifically designed for the little ones. The initial playlot opened its gates in 1988.

Fast forward to 1997, and the park board joined forces with the school board on an ambitious project: remodeling the elementary school and adding facilities both entities could share. By 1999, they'd completed a gym, media center, and park recreation center that benefit both students and the broader community - a smart use of public resources if you ask us.

What You'll Find Here

The outdoor space features play areas that will keep the kiddos entertained, including a playground and tot lot that got a nice upgrade in 2008. The renovation brought in two accessible play areas, making sure everyone can join in on the fun regardless of ability level.

When the weather doesn't cooperate, you can head inside the attached Windom South Recreation Center, where various programs take place in facilities shared with the school.
