About Hi-View Park in Minneapolis
Hi-View Park is a neighborhood park located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The park derives its name from its topography, as it sits on high ground that offers a view of the city. Originally spelled "Highview," the name was changed to "Hi-View" in 1955.
Acquired by the Minneapolis Park Board in 1950 from the state, which had obtained the property due to non-payment of taxes, Hi-View Park initially covered 3.74 acres. In 1961, it was expanded slightly by 0.12 acres. The park's development began in 1951, with initial improvements including an athletic field, volleyball courts, and a children's play area, completed in 1952.
Over the years, Hi-View Park has undergone several renovations and additions. In 1961, a small shelter was built, and the playground equipment was rearranged. A significant update occurred in 1977 with the addition of a wading pool. In 1989, the park received a new play area and baseball field, with the renovated park being dedicated in 1990. More recently, in 2016, a new wading pool and playground were opened to the public.
The park operates from 6 am to midnight, in line with the standard hours for developed areas in Minneapolis parks. Despite its relatively small size of just under 4 acres, Hi-View Park offers a variety of amenities for visitors of all ages, making it a valued recreational space in the Northeast Minneapolis community.
