About the Location
Natural Beauty
Nestled just north of Theodore Wirth Golf Club along Theodore Wirth Parkway in Minneapolis, Valley View Park spans a generous 17.5 acres of green space. It's seamlessly integrated into the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway with walking and biking paths connecting it to Theodore Wirth Park and Victory Memorial Parkway.
Here's a fun fact: most of the park actually sits in Golden Valley, making it one of the few parks that crosses Minneapolis's border. Perched on a hill, the park offers some genuinely beautiful views of the surrounding area - just bring a windbreaker on breezy days, as it can get quite gusty up there!
History
The Minneapolis Park Board acquired the land back in 1927, with additional parcels purchased in 1928 to create a connection with what was then called Glenwood Park (now Wirth Park). Interestingly, "Valley View" has never been officially adopted as the park's name, however it perfectly describes what you'll experience there.
One of the park's original selling points was the spectacular views from Sunset Hill on Memorial Parkway, where you can look out over open countryside. That same sunset-watching tradition continues today, making it an ideal spot for ending your day on a peaceful note.
Recreation
Valley View Park offers a natural setting where you can escape the urban hustle for a while. The walking trails are particularly popular with dog walkers, and if you visit around dusk, keep your eyes peeled - you might spot some deer or other wildlife moving through the area.
Amenities
Kids will love the well-designed playground targeted for the 5-12 age group. It's equipped with regular swings, baby swings for the littlest visitors, individual spinning rides for those who enjoy a bit of dizzying fun, a saucer swing that's great for group play, and slides that provide endless entertainment.
Scattered throughout the open areas, you'll find picnic tables that make for great spots to enjoy an outdoor meal or snack. Just remember to bring your water bottle along, as drinking fountains may not always be available.
