Pearl Park is a 29.33-acre recreational area located in the Page neighborhood of South Minneapolis, Minnesota. Situated at 414 E Diamond Lake Road, the park offers a diverse range of outdoor and indoor activities for visitors of all ages.
The park's history dates back to the 1920s when it was originally part of Pearl Lake. In the 1930s, the lake was filled in using dirt from runway excavations at the Minneapolis Municipal Airport. This transformation laid the foundation for the park's development.
Pearl Park features multiple sports facilities, including baseball and softball fields, football and soccer fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts. In winter, the park transforms with ice skating and hockey rinks, making it a year-round destination for sports enthusiasts.
For families and children, Pearl Park offers two playgrounds, including a tot lot, and a wading pool that operates during the summer months. The park also includes picnic areas and walking paths, providing opportunities for leisurely activities and community gatherings.
The Pearl Recreation Center, located within the park, serves as a hub for community activities. It houses a gymnasium, craft room, kitchen, and multipurpose rooms. The center offers various programs and events throughout the year, collaborating with local community organizations for special occasions such as Frost Fest, Earth Day, and Picnic in the Park.
In recent years, Pearl Park has undergone several improvements. In 2014, it became home to Minneapolis Park Board's first outdoor pickleball court. The park also features modern amenities such as a bike pump and a Little Free Library, enhancing its appeal to diverse user groups.
