About Boyd Park in Saint Paul
Boyd Park is a well-visited public space located in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Situated on the north side of Selby Avenue between Virginia and Farrington Streets, this pleasant square-block park offers a tranquil retreat for residents and visitors alike.
The park features a tree-filled landscape, providing ample shade and a serene environment for visitors. Its paved sidewalks make it accessible for strollers and those seeking a leisurely walk. The park's layout includes grassy areas and flower-lined paths, contributing to its aesthetic appeal.
A notable feature of Boyd Park is Vivienne's Joy Play Area, a playground added in 2018. This playground, built by the Vivienne's Joy Foundation, includes a fairy castle-themed play structure with areas for both older children and toddlers. It also features a swing set, a small music area, and a Little Free Library.
The park is named after Frank Boyd, a St. Paul union labor leader. A bust of Boyd can be found in the park, along with a plaque that reads, "A fighter for / His union / His people / His class." The park was dedicated to Boyd's memory in May 1976, fourteen years after his death.
During the summer months, Boyd Park participates in St. Paul's Fitness in the Parks program, offering free outdoor exercise classes. This program is open to all ages and requires no registration, providing an accessible way for community members to engage in physical activity.
