About Washington Park in Springfield

Washington Park is a historic public park located in Springfield, Missouri. Established in 1869, it is one of the oldest parks in the city. The park spans approximately 4 acres and is situated in the heart of Springfield.

Washington Park has a rich history, being named after President George Washington. It was originally part of North Springfield, which was a separate city until merging with Springfield in 1887. The park was privately maintained until 1913 when it was acquired by the Springfield Park Board along with its sister park, Lafayette Park. At the time, these two parks were the only public parks in Springfield.

Its long-standing presence in the community has made it a cherished local landmark, reflecting the city's commitment to providing public green spaces for its residents.
