About the Location
Natural Setting
Set in Reno, Nevada, Anderson Park spans 70 acres of open ranchland crisscrossed with hiking and equestrian trails. It's a breath of fresh air from city life - literally - offering a peaceful retreat where you can stretch your legs and reconnect with nature.
The preserved ranchland gives you a glimpse into the area's agricultural roots, while the network of trails welcomes everyone from casual hikers to horseback riders and wildlife enthusiasts. Keep your eyes peeled for beautiful meadows, a variety of birds soaring overhead, and if you're lucky, you might spot cattle and calves grazing peacefully in the distance, adding that authentic ranch vibe to your visit.
Picnic Spots
When hunger strikes, you've got options. A cozy two-acre picnic area sits at the southeast corner of the park, which you can easily access from Yoakam Lane.
If you're looking for more space, head to the northern border where you'll come across a more expansive four-acre picnic area near the southern end of Kietzke Lane. Both spots are equipped with picnic benches and shade structures, making them great for a relaxed lunch surrounded by nature's beauty.
Trail Connections
Anderson Park doesn't stand alone - it's connected to Bartley Ranch Regional Park through a series of multi-use trails, giving you even more ground to explore.
The trails are mostly packed dirt, winding through agricultural lands and sagebrush that showcase the region's natural character. There are two main walking trails that are ideal for anything from a casual stroll to a vigorous run, all while enjoying the gorgeous scenery and a sense of getting away from it all.
Pet Information
Bringing your four-legged friend? You're welcome to, but remember that all pets need to stay on leash around the park. It's a popular spot among dog owners, so your pup might make some new friends too.
A word of caution: ticks can be plentiful during spring and summer months, so be sure to check your pet thoroughly after your visit. In winter, some trails can get muddy, so appropriate footwear is definitely a good idea.
Visitor Information
While Anderson Park remains largely undeveloped, that's part of its charm. Locals consider it a quiet location for anyone seeking a green space away from the hustle and bustle.
Note that there are no restroom facilities in the park, so plan accordingly before your visit. Despite its undeveloped nature, you'll discover areas where children and pets can play safely, making it a great option for family outings when you're craving some simple, unstructured time outdoors.
