Riverside Retreat

The land that makes up Dorostkar Park has an interesting backstory - it was once part of the historic Capurro Ranch before Dr. Massoud Dorostkar, a former anesthesiologist, generously donated it to the community. That gift became 26 peaceful acres of public green space along the Truckee River in Reno, Nevada.

It's a tranquil natural setting where you can escape the urban buzz while still staying close to the city.

Trails Worth Traveling

The park's main attraction might be its 1.5-mile moderately trafficked loop trail that winds through the property. The trail is suitable for brisk hiking, leisurely strolling, or simply enjoying nature throughout the year. And yes, your leashed four-legged friends are welcome to join the adventure.

As you walk, the path treats you to picturesque views of the Truckee River and the surrounding landscape. On those scorching Nevada summer days, the riverside location offers a refreshingly cool escape.

If you're looking to extend your journey, Dorostkar connects to the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, a paved bike path following the river's course. The nearby Mayberry Underpass links the park to an even broader network of trails in the area, opening up possibilities for longer expeditions.

The paved paths create an ideal setting for joggers and runners looking to get their exercise with a view. One of the nicest things about Dorostkar is that it rarely feels crowded - you can typically enjoy your chosen activity in relative peace.

Don't write off winter visits either. The park transforms into a serene snow-covered landscape during colder months, offering a completely different but equally captivating experience. Just remember to wear appropriate footwear if you're planning to venture onto the unpaved sections.

What to Expect

Dorostkar offers a mix of paved and unpaved walkways, so you can choose your own adventure based on your comfort level. You can find several picnic tables scattered throughout, excellent for enjoying an alfresco meal surrounded by nature.

There's plenty of parking available, making it easy to access even on busier days. Thoughtfully placed benches along the trails provide welcome resting spots to sit and soak in the river views.

Dog owners will find this park particularly welcoming, however do keep your companions leashed as per the regulations. Mature trees throughout the property cast generous shade, offering welcome relief on sunny afternoons.

One important heads-up: despite what some reviews might mention, there are no permanent restroom facilities at the park. The trail does feature interpretive signs that share interesting tidbits about the local ecosystem and the area's history - a nice educational touch to an already pleasant outdoor experience.
