About the Location
Where You'll Find It & What You'll See
Positioned in Buffalo, New York, Pat Sole Park is a charming little green space sitting right where Columbus Parkway meets Massachusetts Avenue. Its claim to fame? The spectacular views of the Niagara River and the impressive Peace Bridge that is its backdrop.
The park is particularly nice on sunny days, and after sunset the Peace Bridge lights up in a rainbow of colors, creating a beautiful light show across the water.
A Fresh Face for an Old Space
The park got a much-needed makeover in 2017 when the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (PBA) stepped in to manage the space. They poured about $300,000 into sprucing things up, focusing on better landscaping and updated amenities.
These days, the city does a solid job keeping the park in good shape. Regular maintenance means you can find it clean and welcoming whenever you decide to visit - no dodging overflowing trash cans or wading through unkempt grass here.
Kid-Friendly Fun
For those bringing children along, The park features two playground areas thoughtfully designed for different age groups: a larger structure where older kids can burn off energy and a smaller setup perfectly sized for toddlers.
The slides are always a hit with the younger crowd, and the rock wall offers a bit more challenge for adventurous climbers. Just keep an eye on the smaller kids if they attempt the wall - it's tall enough that tumbles could lead to tears.
What to Expect When You Visit
You'll likely spot lots of local families making use of the space, especially those with energetic children in tow. The park also attracts cyclists taking a breather along their route through the city.
Feeling hungry? Grab a spot at one of the picnic tables and enjoy your lunch with a side of scenic views. There's something uniquely interesting about this park's location near the international border - you can watch cars and trucks streaming across the Peace Bridge while enjoying the peaceful flow of the Niagara River below.
Stay Safe
If you're arriving on foot or by bike, take extra care when using the pedestrian crosswalks nearby, especially the one connecting Busti Avenue and Empire Street Trail. This crossing sits close to the 190 on/off ramp and has unfortunately seen its share of accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians. Better safe than sorry!
