About Domino Park
Riverside Escape
Nestled along the East River in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood, Domino Park is a 5-acre urban sanctuary with a story to tell. Opened in 2018, this quarter-mile stretch of waterfront sits on the grounds of the former Domino Sugar Refinery that sweetened New York for over 150 years.
From here, you can enjoy excellent views of the Manhattan skyline and the Williamsburg Bridge stretching across the water. On clear days, you can spot both the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge in the distance. It's no coincidence that the space feels thoughtfully designed - it was created by the same minds behind Manhattan's popular High Line.
Industrial Roots
What makes Domino Park unique is how it embraces rather than erases its industrial heritage. More than 30 salvaged artifacts from the sugar refinery have found new life here, including 21 original columns from the Raw Sugar Warehouse, massive gantry cranes, screw conveyors, and syrup tanks.
These industrial relics form the backbone of the "Artifact Walk" - an interpretive path that lets you connect with the neighborhood's working past while enjoying thoroughly modern park amenities.
Green by Design
Beyond its good looks, Domino Park was built smart. The entire space is elevated above FEMA flood levels, and about 43% of the park is covered with native plants that help manage stormwater runoff.
These thoughtful green spaces don't just protect against flooding - they create a peaceful natural retreat in the midst of Brooklyn's urban landscape.

Play and Unwind
There are plenty of options for both active recreation and relaxation. There's a volleyball court with actual sand (a rarity in NYC), bocce courts for the more strategically-minded, and plenty of open grassy areas well-suited for lounging with a book or having a picnic.
The elevated walkway offers panoramic views of the river and Manhattan - especially nice at sunset when the city lights begin to appear across the water.
Sugar-Inspired Playground
The park's children's playground is a standout feature that both kids and design enthusiasts appreciate. Artist Mark Reigelman cleverly themed the play area after the sugar refining process, with colorful structures mimicking factory equipment.
Some of the wood used in the playground was actually reclaimed from the original refinery buildings. With its creative slides, climbing structures, and tunnels, children get a playful history lesson while burning off energy.
In summer, water sprinklers turn on in designated areas, providing relief from New York's heat - especially helpful for families on hot days.
Practical Comforts
Unlike many NYC parks, Domino doesn't skimp on the basics. You'll find clean public restrooms in the main Domino building just steps from the park grounds.
Seating options abound, from traditional benches to movable chairs with small tables, fantastic for enjoying takeout from one of the on-site food vendors or the park's café.
Community Spirit
Since opening, Domino Park has become a popular gathering place for the community. Year-round, you might stumble upon live music performances, impromptu dance classes, or seasonal attractions like the winter ice skating rink.
Open daily from 6AM to 11PM, the park welcomes early birds and night owls alike, providing that rare combination of activity and tranquility that New Yorkers crave.
The park provides a spacious retreat where Brooklyn's industrial past and present come together along the waterfront.
