About the Location
A Neighborhood Haven in the Making
Tucked away at the corner of Conkey and Clifford Avenues in Rochester, Conkey Corner Park might not be the biggest green space you can find, but it certainly has heart. This small neighborhood park emerged from a grassroots effort to transform an old railroad right-of-way into something the community could actually enjoy and use daily.
What makes this space special is the collaboration behind it. The Genesee Land Trust joined forces with the City of Rochester and local community partners to create a much-needed recreational area for the Group 14621 neighborhood - an area that was previously lacking places for families to gather and kids to play.
What You'll Find Here
The modern playground is definitely a highlight, with swings and slides that give local kids a chance to burn off energy and just be kids. Parents, you'll appreciate the open layout that allows for easy supervision from pretty much anywhere in the park.
Nature lovers will enjoy the perennial gardens that add splashes of color to this urban setting. The butterfly bushes, maintained by dedicated community volunteers through the Genesee Land Trust, bring a touch of wildlife to the neighborhood.
There are benches scattered throughout if you need a quiet moment to yourself or want to watch the world go by for a bit.
Room to Breathe
The park offers open grassy areas that work perfectly for small family get-togethers or casual hangouts. If you're planning a picnic, you can find designated areas to spread out and enjoy a meal together. Just remember to bring your own portable grill if you're planning to cook, especially on busier days.
The walkways throughout are well-maintained, making it accessible whether you're pushing a stroller or helping an older relative get some fresh air. There's something refreshingly simple about the open design that makes everyone feel welcome.
Beyond a Park
One of the coolest aspects of Conkey Corner is that it acts as a gateway to the El Camino Trail. This 2.2-mile urban path connects the neighborhood all the way to Seneca Park, making Conkey Corner a perfect starting point if you're in the mood for a longer walk or bike ride.
Where Community Happens
Summer brings this park to life as a social hub. Local groups like the Conkey Cruisers use it as their meeting spot before heading out on group rides along the El Camino Trail. It's one of those places that naturally brings neighbors together.
The park stays looking good thanks to community volunteers who help with everything from planting flowers to picking up litter along the trail. And yes, you can bring your four-legged friend along - just make sure they're well-behaved and supervised while enjoying the space with you.
