Sports Facilities

The park has two artificial turf fields - a championship field and a multipurpose field. The championship field stretches 360 feet by 225 feet and comes lined for both soccer and flag football, complete with field lights for those evening games.

This field is nicely fenced in and includes player benches and soccer goals. What's really great is that both turf fields are available year-round, so your sports fix doesn't have to hibernate during winter months. The turf quality is top-notch and well-maintained - something local soccer players particularly appreciate.

Additional Recreation Areas

Beyond the turf fields, C. M. Herndon Park houses two youth baseball fields and two multipurpose grass practice fields. The baseball diamonds are well-kept and host the South Durham Little League, with T-ball games taking place throughout the season.

One of the park's cozy locations is its direct access to the American Tobacco Trail - perfect if you're into biking, walking, or running. Many locals use the park as a jumping-off point for trail adventures, especially since this section of the trail tends to be quieter and more serene than other parts.
