About Sherwood Park
Play & Sports Spaces
Found in East Central Durham, North Carolina, Sherwood Park spans a generous 15.1 acres of green space that offers a little something for everyone.
Sports lovers will find baseball and softball fields that accommodate adult games, plus a basketball court that gets particularly active in the evening hours. If you're into futsal (think soccer's fun cousin played on a hard court), there's a dedicated futsal court waiting for you too.
One of the coolest things about this park is the community vibe - locals regularly gather for pickup games, and if you're new to the area, don't be shy! Many of the regular basketball and soccer players are happy to welcome fresh faces into their games.
Kid-Friendly Zone
Got little ones? The fenced-in playground area is designed with children ages 2-12 in mind. You'll come across standard swings alongside toddler bucket swings to keep the smallest park-goers safe and happy.
The playground's main attractions are its slides and swings - nothing fancy, but definitely enough to keep kids entertained. Just a heads-up: there's not much shade covering the playground, so you might want to bring hats and sunscreen on sunny days.
AD2 hour Guided E-Bike Tour: Greenery, Scenery and Mindfulness
2 hours of smooth, scenic riding on hand-picked sections of the most beautiful parts of the NC Mountains to Sea Trail. Enjoy picturesque moments, some local history, while letting the e-bikes glide you along the paved pathway.
Practical Stuff & Local Art
For convenience, the park includes restroom facilities and a water fountain on site.
What makes this park extra special is its contribution to Durham's art scene. Take a moment to check out the mural by local artist William Dove, completed in September 2018. This artwork is part of the broader Neighborhood Park Mural Project, which celebrates Durham's rich culture and history through public art.
Room to Roam
Beyond the structured areas, Sherwood Park offers plenty of open grassy spaces meant for throwing a frisbee, having a picnic, or just sprawling out with a good book. These expansive areas give the park a spacious feel and provide plenty of room for impromptu games or quiet relaxation.
