About the Location

Recreational Features

Set in North Raleigh, Cedar Hills Park spans a generous 38.5 acres of wooded terrain that's been offering outdoor enthusiasts a natural escape since 1975. This quiet location packs quite a punch when it comes to outdoor activities for everyone in the family.

The crown jewel of this park is undoubtedly its 18-hole disc golf course - one of just three in all of Raleigh. Winding through the park's untamed sections, this course isn't for the faint of heart! With concrete tees and a landscape that alternates between dense woods and rolling hills, it's considered one of the most challenging courses in the Triangle area. Before tackling the full course, you can warm up your throwing arm at the dedicated putting warmup area.

What makes this disc golf experience special are the well-crafted fairways, the variety of elevation changes, and those technical wooded shots that'll test your precision. Hole #6 adds some extra excitement with a water hazard that might claim a disc or two if you're not careful. While seasoned players will appreciate the technical challenges, beginners won't feel completely overwhelmed either - making it a great course for all skill levels.

Sports Facilities

Disc golf isn't the only game in town at Cedar Hills. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of four lighted tennis courts for evening matches, a well-maintained basketball court with a solid concrete surface, and a lighted softball field for those twilight games.

The little ones haven't been forgotten either. Two playground areas with cushiony woodchip surfaces cater to different age groups - one for toddlers aged 2-5 and another for kids 5-12. Parents will appreciate that these play areas are just a short walk from the parking lot and provide an enclosed space where children can play safely while you keep a watchful eye.

Natural Environment

Beyond the organized activities, Cedar Hills offers a peaceful retreat into nature. The dense tree canopy provides welcome shade during North Carolina's warmer months and creates a sense of being miles away from city life, even though you're still in Raleigh.

The park's undulating terrain isn't just pretty to look at - it adds an invigorating challenge for walkers and joggers looking to burn a few extra calories. Picturesque creeks meander through parts of the park, adding to the tranquil soundtrack of rustling leaves and birdsong. Just a heads-up: after a good rain, some trails can get a bit muddy, so appropriate footwear is a smart choice.

Amenities

Planning a family gathering or small celebration? The park's picnic shelter offers multiple tables, some with grills attached, ideal for cookouts and communal meals in the great outdoors.

You'll discover clean, centrally located restrooms that are easily accessible no matter where your park adventures take you - if you're shooting hoops, playing tennis, watching the kids on the playground, or finishing up a round of disc golf.

Visitor Information

Part of Cedar Hills' charm is its somewhat secluded location, which helps maintain its peaceful atmosphere even on busier days. Multiple parking lots serve the park, including one on the northwest side that's particularly convenient if you're heading straight for the disc golf course.

Four-legged family members are welcome within the park, provided they stay on leash. You'll often spot disc golfers and walkers with their canine companions enjoying the natural setting together.

The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 6PM. If you're planning to play a complete round of disc golf, you might want to arrive with plenty of time to spare - a full 18 holes typically takes between 2-3 hours to complete, depending on your pace and skill level.
