About the Location

A Glimpse into the Past

Positioned in Akron, Ohio, Waters Park stands as a little glimpse of history dating all the way back to 1893. What started as the private estate of Frank Hyde Waters and his wife Cora became a public treasure when they generously willed their property to the City of Akron in 1933.

Today, this green space is a popular hangout for folks from the North Hill neighborhood and throughout Akron.

What Makes It Special

One of the first things you'll notice is the park's amphitheater from 1937. Though it's weathered by time and could use some TLC, this historical structure that once hosted 500 people still adds character to the landscape.

If you're a fan of city views, you'll appreciate the glimpses of downtown Akron and the Little Cuyahoga River valley that peek through the trees. The panorama isn't what it once was (thanks to decades of tree growth), but the vistas you can catch are still worth seeking out.

Get Moving

Waters Park has definitely kept up with the times when it comes to recreation options. The pickleball courts are particularly popular. From morning until dusk, you'll find enthusiasts of all skill levels volleying away. These courts have quickly become a gathering spot for local players.

Not into pickleball? No problem. The tennis courts offer another option for racquet sports enthusiasts, while the walking trails provide a more leisurely way to get your steps in.

Looking to the Future

There's a renewed energy around Waters Park lately. In 2022, the North Hill Community Development Corporation formed the Friends of Waters Park group and partnered with Akron TorchBearers to breathe new life into this historic space.

Plans are in the works to improve the viewpoints, add new facilities, and expand parking options - all aimed at making this park even more welcoming for everyone who visits.

Good to Know

You can enjoy Waters Park daily from 6AM to 10PM. All the basics are covered with restrooms, drinking water, a picnic area, and a parking lot to make your visit comfortable.

Regardless of whether you're looking to play a game of pickleball, take a peaceful walk, or just soak in a bit of Akron history, Waters Park offers a pleasant escape without having to leave the city.
