Waters Park, located in Akron, Ohio, is a historic community park with roots dating back to 1893. The park was originally established on the estate of Frank Hyde Waters and his wife Cora, who willed the property to the City of Akron in 1933.

Today, Waters Park serves as a recreational space for the North Hill neighborhood and the broader Akron community.

Notable Features

The park features an iconic amphitheater, constructed in 1937, which once seated 500 people. While the amphitheater has fallen into disrepair over the years, it remains a distinctive feature of the park.

Waters Park is also known for its panoramic views of downtown Akron and the Little Cuyahoga River valley, though these views have become partially obstructed by tree growth over time.

Recreational Offerings

Waters Park has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. It now includes various sports facilities, making it a popular destination for active recreation.

The park has become particularly well-known for its pickleball courts, which attract players daily from morning until sundown.

Revitalization Efforts

In recent years, there have been efforts to revitalize Waters Park. The North Hill Community Development Corporation formed the Friends of Waters Park in 2022, collaborating with Akron TorchBearers to restore and improve the property.

Proposed plans include enhancing the viewpoint, constructing new facilities, and expanding parking to make the park more accessible and enjoyable for visitors.
