About Creek Stickball Park

Historical Significance

In November 2024, the City of Tulsa announced plans to transfer ownership of Creek Stickball Park, along with neighboring Council Oak Park, to the Muscogee Creek Nation - an acknowledgment that this isn't just any patch of green space, but sacred ground with deep cultural roots. The park celebrates the traditional game of stickball, which the Creek people call A-ne-jo-di in their language.

Soon, the Muscogee people themselves will guide the future of this significant site in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's a living piece of Native American heritage, and that transfer of stewardship feels like exactly the right outcome.

Traditional Game Features

At the heart of the park lies a specialized playing area designed specifically for stickball. If you visit, you'll notice the distinctive single pole (standing 5-10 meters tall) topped with a brightly painted animal skull. Look for the blue painted ring about 60 centimeters in diameter - these elements aren't just decorative but essential components of the traditional Creek stickball game.

Cultural Events

The park hosts annual tournaments and cultural gatherings. These events offer a wonderful opportunity to witness this traditional Native American sport in action and gain deeper insight into Creek heritage. No matter if you're a local or just passing through Tulsa, these cultural celebrations provide a genuine window into indigenous traditions that have been practiced for generations.
