About the Location
Recent Renovations
McCullough Park has undergone significant renovations and improvements in recent years, transforming it into a modern community space with diverse amenities. In February 2023, after more than a year of renovations, the park held a grand opening to showcase its new features.
The renovations, which began in late 2021, were part of a master plan aimed at revitalizing the park and better serving the needs of the local community. This transformation has made the park a popular destination for families throughout East Tulsa.
Park Features
Originally featuring baseball diamonds and dugouts, McCullough Park has expanded its offerings to cater to a wider range of recreational activities. The park now boasts a new main entrance with an expanded parking lot, improving accessibility for visitors.
A standout feature is the impressive pump track with an asphalt surface, designed for bikes, skateboards, scooters, and even remote-controlled cars. This area features simulated hills and rolling terrain that attract enthusiasts of all ages.
The park also includes a basketball court within a gated area, a multi-purpose sports court, and a baseball field. Additionally, the installation of walking trails with both paved and packed gravel sections allows park-goers to explore the green space and enjoy the mature trees that provide ample shade.
Water Features
During warm weather, the splash pad becomes a popular attraction for families looking to cool off. This water play area is thoughtfully designed and positioned near the playground, making it easy for children to enjoy both features.
The splash pad has multiple water sprinklers and is a welcome addition to East Tulsa, giving families a free option for summer water play.
Playground Area
The modern playground features a striking tall climbing structure with two fast slides and numerous climbing opportunities including walls and netting. There's also a large hammock swing that can accommodate multiple children at once, and several spinning features that add to the fun.
The playground is built on a soft safety surface and offers plenty of challenges for school-aged children, though some visitors note it's best suited for children over five years old. Parents will appreciate the ample seating areas surrounding the playground that allow for easy supervision.
Amenities for Families
McCullough Park offers excellent facilities for family gatherings with multiple picnic areas. There are two covered shelters with tables and additional picnic tables scattered throughout the park, some positioned under shade trees.
The park includes restroom facilities located conveniently near the playground area. While generally clean, availability can sometimes be inconsistent.
Location
McCullough Park is somewhat hidden behind the Martin Regional Library, between 21st and 31st streets on Garnett Road. This location creates a nice synergy, as families can combine a library visit with playground time in a single outing.
The park's tucked-away position gives it a neighborhood feel, with many local residents making regular use of the facilities. Its comprehensive redesign has transformed it into a valuable community asset for East Tulsa.
