McCullough Park
About McCullough Park
A Fresh Start for an East Tulsa Gem
McCullough Park has undergone a significant renovation in recent years, transforming into a modern community space with a variety of features. After more than a year of construction dust and anticipation, February 2023 marked the grand opening of the revitalized park, showcasing all its new features to eager locals.
The transformation, which kicked off in late 2021, wasn't just a simple facelift - it was part of a comprehensive master plan to revitalize this East Tulsa space. The park is now frequently visited by families throughout the area.
What's New and Notable
While McCullough once focused primarily on baseball with its diamonds and dugouts, it's now expanded its horizons considerably. The new main entrance and larger parking lot make getting in and out a breeze - always a plus when you're wrangling kids and gear.
Perhaps the most eye-catching addition is the pump track with its smooth asphalt surface. You can use bikes, skateboards, scooters, or even remote-controlled cars on the simulated hills and rolling terrain. It's not uncommon to see both kids and adults testing their skills here.
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the basketball court nestled in its gated area, alongside a versatile multi-purpose sports court and the traditional baseball field. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the new walking trails - both paved and packed gravel - wind through the green space, shaded by mature trees that provide shade on sunny Oklahoma days.
Splash into Summer
During hot weather, the splash pad is particularly popular. Strategically placed near the playground, this water play area lets kids easily bounce between climbing and cooling off. With multiple sprinklers, it's a nice option for East Tulsa families looking for free summer activities.
Playground Paradise
The playground features a tall climbing structure with two fast slides that children seem to enjoy. Climbing opportunities abound with walls and netting for the more adventurous kids. The large hammock swing can accommodate several children at once, making it good for group play.
Built on a soft safety surface, the playground has various features to keep kids interested. It's worth noting that while all ages are welcome, the equipment seems best suited for children over five. Parents can relax on the ample seating surrounding the play area, making supervision comfortable and convenient.
Gathering Spaces
McCullough Park offers multiple picnic areas for family gatherings. You'll come across two covered shelters equipped with tables, plus additional picnic tables scattered across the grounds - many thoughtfully positioned under shade trees.
When nature calls, restroom facilities are conveniently located near the playground area. They're generally clean, but you might want to have a backup plan as availability can sometimes be hit or miss.
Finding Your Way
Tucked behind the Martin Regional Library between 21st and 31st streets on Garnett Road, McCullough Park feels like a hidden treasure. This location makes it convenient to visit both the library and the park in one trip.
Its somewhat secluded position gives the park a cozy neighborhood vibe, with locals regularly taking advantage of all it has to offer. The redesigned McCullough Park now serves East Tulsa residents as a local recreation option.
