About Veterans Park
A Tribute to Service and Sacrifice
Positioned in the heart of downtown Tulsa sits Veterans Park, a 15-acre green haven that offers a peaceful escape from city life. Once known as Boulder Park, it was rededicated in 1990 to honor those who've served from Tulsa County.
This isn't just another city park - it's a living reminder that our freedom has been protected by real people who made real sacrifices. Each Memorial Day, the park transforms with a particularly moving Field of Heroes commemoration that brings the community together in gratitude.
Honoring Those Who Served
As you wander through the park, you'll encounter several meaningful memorials. Among the small grove of trees stands a permanent memorial from 1954 that honors Tulsa County citizens who gave their lives defending our country.
A striking commemorative obelisk added in 1985 pays tribute to armed forces members from Tulsa County who made the ultimate sacrifice. The monument specifically acknowledges those who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam - a sobering reminder of our shared history.
Natural Beauty in an Urban Setting
Gently winding walking paths guide you through lush greenery and alongside a tranquil pond with soothing water features. The paved walking trail that circles the pond offers some pretty impressive views of downtown Tulsa's skyline - a fantastic backdrop for your morning stroll or afternoon reflection.
You'll find plenty of open grassy areas that are ideal for spreading out a picnic blanket, however note there aren't formal picnic tables. If you need a break, comfortable benches are scattered throughout, making the park accessible for those with mobility concerns.
The man-made waterfall creates a peaceful soundtrack, and children often enjoy watching the minnows darting about in the pond. Fall brings a special magic to Veterans Park as the leaves change, creating a colorful display that local photographers can't resist capturing.
A Natural Oasis
Despite being in downtown Tulsa, the park hosts a surprising array of wildlife. Birds, rabbits, and ducks have made this place their home, particularly around the pond area. The combination of water features and green spaces creates a peaceful environment within the urban landscape.
Regardless of whether you're seeking sun or shade, you can find your perfect spot here. Mature trees provide welcome cooling during Oklahoma's warmer months, while open areas let you soak up sunshine when you need it.
Bring Your Four-Legged Friends
If you're a dog owner, you'll appreciate that Veterans Park welcomes your furry companions. The open spaces give dogs room to explore (though keeping them leashed is best, especially near the wildlife-rich pond area).
You'll come across dog waste stations with clean-up bags at the park entrance - a thoughtful touch that helps keep this community space clean for everyone to enjoy.
Community Gathering Place
Beyond its role as a memorial, Veterans Park serves various community functions. It's been used for events ranging from intimate weddings to community fundraisers like the Tulsa Great Strides walk.
The park's event center provides a spacious venue with an excellent projector system for organized functions. Whether you're looking for a quiet moment of reflection or a place to connect with others, the park accommodates both needs.
Plan Your Visit
The park welcomes visitors daily from 5 AM to 11 PM. You can find free street parking on the north end, with additional designated parking areas nearby. If you're exploring Tulsa car-free, the park is conveniently accessible via the Midland Valley Trail, making it an easy stop for cyclists and pedestrians.
