About the Location
A Modern Recreation Hub
Located in southeast Bend, Oregon, Alpenglow Community Park is a 37-acre recreation area that opened in 2022. This spacious park offers recreation, community gatherings, and natural spaces in one of Bend's growing neighborhoods.
Natural Landscape Design
Walk through Alpenglow and you'll immediately notice how it celebrates the high desert environment with its mature ponderosa pines and juniper trees standing tall around the grounds. Unlike traditional parks, less than 8% of the space is dedicated to lawn - instead, natural areas dominate the landscape.
Look west and you'll be treated to breathtaking Cascade Mountain views, which inspired the park's poetic name.
Extensive Trail Network
Lace up your walking shoes because Alpenglow offers an impressive 3.5 miles of developed trails. These include 2.2 miles of ADA-accessible paved paths and a 0.9-mile perimeter loop path that's great for a quick outdoor jaunt. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the additional 1.3 miles of soft surface trails that wind through more natural areas.
These connected pathways provide options for both recreation and transportation. The trails accommodate both solo walkers and those with dogs.
Unique Recreational Features
Alpenglow features Bend's first public bouldering area with three distinct structures - natural routes, hand-hold routes, and accessible options with rope assists for adaptive climbers. The structures accommodate both beginners and experienced climbers as an outdoor alternative to climbing gyms.
The seasonal sprayground "splash pad" is popular with children during hot summer days. Kids can activate the water features with a simple push of a button, creating their own cool-down experience.
Inclusive Playground
The playground includes equipment designed for children of all abilities. You can find a wheelchair-accessible swing, a roller slide, traditional swings, and various climbing structures that accommodate different age groups and physical capabilities.
There's even a musical area where kids can experiment with outdoor instruments and sound features - adding an auditory dimension to the playground experience.
Dog-Friendly Areas
The off-leash dog park at Alpenglow includes a small dog area (for those under 25 lbs), a dedicated fetch zone, and a main section with varied terrain.
The agility course allows dogs to practice jumps, weaves, and tunnels. The dog park offers diverse spaces and changing landscape for canine visitors.
Community Amenities
The large covered pavilion provides picnic tables and shade during sunny afternoons. It can be used for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or casual outdoor meals.
There are modern restroom facilities that include family-friendly and gender-neutral options with baby changing stations. These facilities provide convenience during park visits.
Sustainable Design
Alpenglow incorporates sustainable design elements. The park was designed with net-zero energy consumption as a goal. Solar panels harness Bend's abundant sunshine to power the event pavilion, restrooms, lighting, and irrigation systems.
For those interested in local flora, a small demonstration garden showcases native plant varieties, offering a quiet educational element to round out your park experience.
