About the Location
Park Overview
Positioned in northeast Bend, Canal Row Park sits at the junction of NE Brinson Boulevard and NE Butler Market Road. Opening its gates in 2016, this neighborhood space borrowed its name from the development across the adjacent canal.
This medium-sized green space offers features for various interests and age groups. It's conveniently positioned on Bend's east side, offering easy access to the canal trail that winds through the area. While parking is limited (just six spaces plus handicap spots), the park is peaceful and easily accessible.
Playground Paradise
The main feature of the park is its playground area, featuring swings and a larger-than-normal play structure that accommodates kids of various ages. The slides are a particular hit with the local youngsters.
The park includes a natural play area, which encourages more imaginative and unstructured play. Here, kids can explore and climb on stumps, logs, and boulders - connecting with nature in a way many modern playgrounds miss.
Note that the playground doesn't offer much shade, so on those bright summer days, the equipment can heat up considerably.
Hands-On Water Fun
Canal Row Park includes an interactive water feature. Kids can operate a manual hand pump to direct water through a custom-built course - equal parts fun and science lesson.
The water trough provides a tactile way for children to engage with the elements. If you're heading over during summer, you might want to toss a towel in your bag - this water feature is practically irresistible to kids!
Space to Breathe
The park unfolds into generous grassy areas excellent for picnicking, tossing a frisbee, or simply lounging in the sun. The large open field welcomes dogs playing fetch or impromptu soccer games. In the background, you can hear the sound of rushing water from the nearby canal.
For gatherings, you can find a covered picnic area available for reservation. One minor drawback: seating can be somewhat limited, especially in shaded spots where parents can comfortably keep an eye on playing children.
Facilities
When nature calls, the park offers restroom facilities in the form of portable toilets. They serve their purpose, but they can be less than ideal during the heat of summer.
Canal Row Park is well-maintained with paved walking paths throughout, making it accessible for visitors of all mobility levels. With its mix of playground equipment, water features, and open spaces, it's easy to see why local families have made this park a regular part of their outdoor routines.
