About the Location
A Piece of History in Hillsboro
When you need a break from the hustle and bustle, Shute Park offers a refreshing escape with deep roots. Established back in 1906, this 13-acre space is Hillsboro's oldest park, nestled at the crossroads of SE 10th Avenue and SE Maple Street along Tualatin Valley Highway.
One of the first things you'll notice here are the towering Douglas firs and majestic old oak trees that create a natural canopy around the grounds. These gentle giants provide welcome shade on sunny days and give the park its distinctive character. Between these leafy sentinels, you'll find open grassy spaces fantastic for spreading out a blanket, tossing a frisbee, or simply watching the world go by.
Take a Dip or Break a Sweat
Feeling active? The Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) offers both indoor and outdoor swimming options. Inside, you'll discover a main pool, wading area for the little ones, a relaxing spa, and a dry sauna to melt away stress.
During those warm summer months, the outdoor pool beckons with diving boards for the more adventurous. Beyond just swimming, the center offers various fitness programs and classes suited for people of all ages and ability levels.
Something for Everyone
If you've got kids in tow, the modern playground equipment will keep them entertained for hours. There are separate areas designed specifically for younger and older children, featuring everything from classic swings and slides to climbing structures and fun spinning features.
Hungry? Scattered throughout the park are numerous picnic tables and sheltered areas, many tucked beneath the shade of those magnificent trees. Bring some food to grill on the available BBQ pits or reserve one of the picnic shelters for your next family gathering.
Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the softball field, while those looking for a gentle workout might prefer the paved walking paths that wind around the park - great for a peaceful stroll, bike ride, or skating session. The park also features an amphitheater stage where you can catch outdoor performances during warmer months.
The Heart of Community Life
The park includes the Hillsboro Public Library branch within its boundaries, offering easy access to books and media, while the nearby Hillsboro Senior Center provides activities for older residents.
With its central location and diverse facilities, the park is a popular gathering place for Hillsboro residents throughout the year.
Events That Bring People Together
Year-round, the park comes alive with community events. Summer evenings are especially magical during the "Showtime at Shute" concert series, where you can enjoy free live music performances every Thursday in July and August. Food trucks often line up during these popular concerts, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Beyond music, the park hosts various cultural celebrations and community gatherings like the annual Celtic Fantasy Faire and seasonal holiday events. These activities add to the park's role in community life.
