Historic Significance

Allegheny Commons is Pittsburgh's oldest park, established in 1867 in what was then the separate city of Allegheny before its annexation by Pittsburgh. Located on Pittsburgh's North Side, the 64-acre park surrounds the neighborhood of Allegheny Center and serves as a central green space for several diverse Northside communities.

Landscape Features

The park features wide promenades lined with mature trees, creating picturesque walking paths popular with residents and visitors alike. At its center is Lake Elizabeth, a man-made lake that adds a scenic focal point and gathering place within the park. The lake area was redesigned in the 1960s with a more modern aesthetic.

Notable Attractions
