About Charter E. Doyle Park in Knoxville
Charter E. Doyle Park is a 27.88-acre public park located in South Knoxville, Tennessee, off Chapman Highway. The park was established in 1984 when the Doyle family generously donated the land to serve as a neighborhood recreational area.
The park features an open green space with a backstop for baseball or softball games, providing ample room for various recreational activities. A paved pathway, known as the Charter Doyle Greenway, circumnavigates the park's central areas, including the playground, shelter, and tennis courts. This 0.5-mile loop offers visitors opportunities for walking, running, and cycling.
One of the park's notable features is the Mildred Doyle Nature Trail, a 0.1-mile unpaved path that meanders through the wooded areas of the park. This trail not only provides a peaceful nature walk but also passes by the historic Doyle family cemetery. Visitors can find a single military tombstone recording the life of John Doyle, dating from 1748 to 1837.
In 2011, the park expanded its offerings with the addition of the Charter Doyle Petsafe Dog Park. This fenced-in, off-leash area features separate sections for small and large dogs, complete with amenities such as a water fountain with a spout at canine level and dog waste stations.
Charter E. Doyle Park serves as a versatile community space, catering to various recreational needs and providing a tranquil environment for local residents and visitors alike.
