About Sterchi Hills Park
Park Overview
Found in North Knoxville, Tennessee, Sterchi Hills Park is a 12-acre community gem that sits nestled beside the Sterchi Hills neighborhood. It's one of those places that doesn't try to be flashy, but instead focuses on serving local needs perfectly. The park creates a nice connection between the Sterchi Hills Greenway and Tommy Schumpert Park, making it part of a larger outdoor recreation network.
Athletic Facilities
If you're into soccer, you'll appreciate the soccer complex that provides plenty of space for friendly matches and practice sessions. Tennis enthusiasts can make use of the two courts that cleverly double as pickleball courts with dual line markings. Yes, there are a few cracks showing the courts' age, but they're perfectly fine for a casual game with friends.
There's also a half-court basketball setup with a single hoop - ideal for practicing your jump shot or playing a quick game of HORSE. While the athletic areas are well-kept, they can get busy during weekends and after-school hours, so timing your visit might be worth considering.
Playground
The handicap-accessible playground is a thoughtful addition that makes sure all kids can join in the fun. We love that they've created two separate play zones for different age groups - the section designed for the little ones even features an adorable playhouse structure that sparks imaginative play.
Parents can relax under the covered shelter with picnic tables while keeping an eye on their adventuring children. The playground strikes that perfect balance - engaging enough to keep kids entertained without being overwhelming or crowded.
Greenway Trail
One of our favorite aspects of the park is the 2.1-mile paved Sterchi Hills Greenway winding through the grounds. Whether you're in the mood for a peaceful morning walk, a brisk jog, or a leisurely bike ride, the trail offers a pleasant experience with some nice scenery.
The path winds through quiet residential areas and eventually connects to Tommy Schumpert Park with its three-sectioned dog park. If you need shade during summer months, the uphill section near the tennis courts offers more tree cover than other parts of the greenway.
Amenities
You can find a restroom facility on-site, though it's worth noting that it's occasionally locked. The park's covered pavilion with picnic tables makes for a great spot to enjoy a packed lunch or gather with friends and family.
Four-legged friends are welcome here too! Just remember to keep them on a leash. You'll discover dog waste bags available along the walking paths, which is a thoughtful touch, but you'll need to carry waste to the trash bins that are mainly located near the playground and tennis courts.
Community Value
What makes Sterchi Hills Park special is how it balances active recreation with quieter spaces. It's generally clean, peaceful, and well-maintained - exactly what you want from a neighborhood park.
It's become a meaningful spot for local families without drawing the crowds of larger parks in the area. This gives it a more intimate feel, where you can exercise, unwind, or meet up with neighbors without feeling overwhelmed by crowds. It's not trying to be the biggest or most impressive park around - it's just focused on being a reliable, pleasant green space for the community.
