About the Location
Play Ball & Ride On
The J.W. Dunlop Sports Center features several well-kept baseball and soccer fields that host everything from casual kickarounds to competitive league matches, including women's soccer leagues. If you're into something with a bit more adrenaline, check out "TheWoods at Dunlop" - a BMX trail tucked away in the wooded area between the baseball and soccer fields. These dirt jumps are well-maintained by local riders, making for some good two-wheeled fun.
Kid-Friendly Zones
Got little ones? The recently renovated playground is split into two thoughtfully designed areas: a cozy space for the toddlers (ages 2-5) that's fenced off for peace of mind, complete with a classic seesaw, and a more adventurous zone for the bigger kids (ages 5-12). There's even a small walking trail circling the playground - well-suited for pushing strollers while keeping an eye on your older children as they play.
When snack time hits, you'll come across several picnic areas scattered within the park. The shaded spots are particularly welcome during those scorching Texas summer days - quite helpful when you're trying to enjoy lunch in the heat.
Gather & Celebrate
Planning something bigger? The park offers two pavilions you can reserve through Arlington Parks and Recreation. Each comes equipped with a grill and four picnic tables, with space for up to 25 people. There's also a generous awning area featuring multiple tables and grills - a great setup for birthday parties or family reunions.
As for practicalities, you'll come across public restroom facilities near the baseball fields and portable toilets in other sections of the park. Your four-legged friends aren't forgotten either, with a dedicated pet water fountain available. Just a heads-up: the parking lots can fill up quickly during busy weekends when games are in full swing, so arriving early is your best bet.
Natural Escape
Spread across 52 acres, J.W. Dunlop offers plenty of breathing room. Beyond the sports facilities, you'll discover natural areas and trails where you can step away from the action and enjoy some quieter moments among local greenery. A peaceful creek winds through part of the property, adding to the tranquil vibe - though it might also attract mosquitoes, so bring repellent if you're exploring this area.
If you're looking for a more relaxed experience, weekdays at Dunlop are notably peaceful. The park maintains a clean, safe environment that locals particularly appreciate - a little outdoor haven in the midst of Arlington.
