Park Overview

Set in Denton, Texas, Lake Forest Park spans a generous 69.32 acres of community space that strikes a nice balance between wild and manicured areas. If you're looking for a place to spread out, you'll appreciate the large open spaces and plenty of parking that make this park accessible for whatever activity you have in mind.

Trail System

Lacing through the park is about 1.89 miles of trails - 0.74 miles of smooth concrete paths complemented by 1.42 miles of more rustic gravel trails. These winding routes take you through shaded woods and open areas, ideal for a casual stroll or morning jog.

One thing we really appreciate about these trails is how well they hold up after rain - the gravel sections don't turn into muddy messes, which is always a plus if you're trying to keep your shoes clean! The terrain is mostly gentle with some slight hills, and there's enough tree cover to keep you cool on warmer days.

Beyond the main marked trail, you'll come across smaller offshoots that are worth exploring if you're feeling a bit adventurous.

Wiggly Field Dog Park

Dog owners, rejoice! The park features Wiggly Field, a dedicated area where your four-legged friends can run free. It's thoughtfully equipped with water stations for thirsty pups and waste disposal facilities to keep things clean.

If you want to take your dog beyond Wiggly Field, the rest of the trails welcome them too - just keep them leashed, as the park is home to wildlife including coyotes that have been spotted in the area.

Recreation Facilities

Kids will enjoy the playground area, while the shaded pavilion offers a wonderful spot for family picnics or small get-togethers. Basketball enthusiasts can shoot some hoops at the on-site court.

A word of caution: field stickers can be a nuisance in certain sections, particularly when cutting across open areas to reach the basketball court or trails. Thankfully, the playground and dog park typically remain sticker-free zones.

Natural Features

The park's lake or pond adds a serene touch to the landscape and attracts various wildlife. Nature lovers will appreciate the interesting geology, plant life, and animals that call this park home.

Throughout the park, you'll come across benches where you can take a breather and soak in the surroundings. Just be aware that snakes and ticks share this space too, especially near water and play areas - so keep your eyes open during your visit.

Facilities

For restroom needs, the park offers two portable toilets rather than permanent facilities. You can enjoy the park daily from 6AM to 10PM.
