About the Location

Park Overview

Located in far southwest Fort Worth, Texas, Candleridge Park stretches across 125 acres in a linear fashion. The park came to life in June 1981, starting from a modest 7-acre plot donated by the Candle Ridge Development Corporation as part of their annexation deal with Fort Worth.

At the heart of the park sits French Lake, a beautiful 4.5-acre body of water that is the park's centerpiece. The lake is home to diverse wildlife - Ducks, geese, and turtles call this place home, creating perfect moments for wildlife watching (and yes, occasionally tossing them a snack).

Trail System

Lacing throughout Candleridge are 2.51 miles of multi-use trails that meander through green spaces and wrap around the lake. These paved pathways connect different sections of the park while offering multiple entry points from the surrounding neighborhood.

The trails accommodate walking, jogging, and leisurely bike rides. Following the path around the water offers a peaceful experience, suitable for relaxation or exercise.

Playground Areas

Kids have plenty of space to burn energy at Candleridge's multiple playground areas. The thoughtful design includes separate spaces for the little ones with age-appropriate equipment, while older children can challenge themselves on more complex structures.

The park recently updated its playground equipment, adding fun features like parent-baby combo swings and an exciting zipline. The shaded play structures provide welcome relief during hot Texas summer days.

Recreational Facilities

Outdoor fitness equipment is placed near the playgrounds, allowing parents to exercise while supervising their children.

If fishing is more your style, you'll discover several fishing spots dotted around the lake. The waters primarily host bluegill and carp, but if you're lucky, you might reel in some bass or crappie too.

Picnic Areas

When hunger strikes, head to one of the park's picnic areas. The tables tucked under pavilions offer welcome relief from the Texas sun. These spaces work perfectly for family get-togethers or just enjoying a sandwich with a view.

If you prefer a more casual dining experience, the park's generous open grassy areas invite you to spread out a blanket, unpack your lunch, and maybe spot some wildlife while you eat.

Wildlife

One of Candleridge's most charming features is its abundant wildlife. The lake draws in various waterfowl, particularly ducks and geese that have grown comfortable with human visitors - sometimes a bit too comfortable as they waddle over hoping for a treat.

Keep your eyes peeled for turtles basking in the sun by the lake's edge and friendly squirrels that might come investigating if they think you've brought snacks. The park offers a glimpse of nature within the urban environment.

Visitor Information

The park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 11:30PM and is dog-friendly - just remember to keep your four-legged friends leashed at all times. You'll come across dog waste stations with bags conveniently placed throughout the walking trails.

One thing to note before your visit: there are no permanent restroom facilities at the park. This is definitely something to keep in mind when planning longer outings, especially if you're bringing children along.
