About the Location
A Brief History
Found in Fort Worth, Texas, Westcreek Park spans a modest 17 acres of neighborhood greenspace. The city acquired this small retreat back in 1971, using matching funds from the U.S. Bureau of Outdoor Recreation as part of the 1965-70 Capital Improvement Program for the Southwest Hills area.
Before officially becoming the park we know today, locals called it Southwest Hills Park - a small detail that connects the space to its roots.
Natural Beauty
The landscape here isn't particularly dramatic, but that's part of its charm. With terrain that ranges from flat to gently rolling, Westcreek offers a refreshing simplicity. A creek meanders along the southeast boundary, adding a touch of natural tranquility to your visit.
The park's open spaces provide plenty of room to spread out, whether you're looking to toss a frisbee, have a picnic, or just find a quiet spot to read under a tree.
What's Available
Over the years, Westcreek Park has evolved with several additions and improvements. Playground equipment was among the first additions, giving local kids a place to play and burn off energy.
In 1986, a shelter was built, offering much-needed shade during those hot Texas summers and a gathering space for small events. The playground got a facelift in 2000, and most recently in 2023, the playground area was updated again with modern equipment that looks genuinely inviting for children.
Places to Picnic
If you're planning to spend some time here, you'll find a covered picnic area with about six tables - great for a family lunch or casual get-together. For those seeking a bit more privacy, additional picnic tables are scattered around the park under the shade of trees.
These dedicated spots work well for small gatherings or simply enjoying a peaceful meal outdoors.
Community Connections
The park's integration with the community runs deep. In 2002, the City of Fort Worth leased a small portion (0.22 acres) to the Fort Worth Independent School District, which became part of an athletic facility. This space was used for the outfield fence of a new baseball diamond at South Hills High School - a nice example of resource sharing between public spaces.
Located within the Wedgwood East neighborhood, Westcreek Park provides green space for local residents. It's nothing flashy or extraordinary, but there's something nice about its simplicity - a quiet spot away from urban life where you can enjoy the outdoors.
