About George Markos Park
History and Dedication
Found in Fort Worth, TX, George Markos Park spans a generous 29.7 acres of neighborhood greenspace. The park bears the name of Captain George Markos (1939-1965), a local Fort Worth resident who served as an Army helicopter pilot before tragically losing his life during the Vietnam War. The community dedicated this peaceful space to his memory in 1973.
Recreational Amenities
In 2006, the park got a nice upgrade with new playground equipment that's become a hit with local families. Kids particularly enjoy the small and large slides that cater to different age groups and adventure levels.
If you're looking to get some steps in, you'll appreciate the trail system that meanders through the grounds. These pathways include both concrete and dirt paths connecting to scattered seating areas and shady spots across the park.
When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas where you can spread out lunch while enjoying the outdoors. Benches dot the landscape for those moments when you just need to sit and soak in some nature. The well-maintained swings are another popular feature that both kids and the young-at-heart enjoy.
ADDinosaur World Glen Rose
See up close over 100 dinosaurs, see artifacts and animatronics in the indoor museum, sift for gems at the Gem Mine, find real fossils at the Fossil Dig, take a train ride around the park, play at the playground and don't forget to browse our gift shop with everything for a dinosaur lover and a huge selection of rocks and minerals.
Park Features and Accessibility
You'll find George Markos Park consistently well-kept, with freshly mowed lawns and tidy facilities. The gates are open daily from 6AM to 9PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this green oasis.
Note that you'll need to find street parking since there's no dedicated lot. Also, shade can be somewhat limited, so you might want to bring a hat or some sunscreen during those scorching Texas summer days.
Feel free to bring your four-legged friends along - the park is dog-friendly throughout all areas.
Natural Environment
Amidst Fort Worth's urban landscape, this park offers a calm retreat with its open green spaces and scattered trees. While sometimes described as quiet, that peacefulness is exactly what makes it a fantastic spot to clear your head or enjoy a good book.
The park hosts a variety of local wildlife, plants, and insects. If you're interested in contributing to citizen science, the City of Fort Worth encourages using iNaturalist to document your observations while visiting - a small way to help track and understand local biodiversity while enjoying your time outdoors.
