About the Location
Historic Background
Glenwood Park is a historic 37-acre green space located in the Historic Southside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas. The park was established in 1927 when the city purchased 31.66 acres of land from Mrs. Bell Tyler for $8,000.
The park once contained Tyler's Lake, a privately owned beauty spot popular with local residents, though the lake was later drained.
Park Features
Situated along a busy north-south arterial road, Glenwood Park features open fields, wooded areas, and a creek running through it. The park provides opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and community gatherings.
Improvements and Revitalization
Over the years, Glenwood Park has received various improvements. In 2006-2007, the park's shelter was replaced as part of the Small Capital Projects Work Crew Plan.
More recently, the Fort Worth Climate Safe Neighborhood Coalition has been working to revitalize the long-neglected park, hosting clean-up events and advocating for further enhancements.
Future Plans
The City of Fort Worth is currently developing a master plan for future improvements to Glenwood Park. Community input sessions have been held to gather ideas from residents on desired upgrades and amenities.
Proposed additions include a splash pad, new pedestrian bridge, volleyball courts, basketball hoops, more trash cans, and pavilions. These revitalization efforts aim to increase equitable access to safe, sustainable green space in the area.
