About the Location

Historic Roots

Dating back to 1916, Eastwood Park has been a fixture in Houston's recreational landscape for over a century. This 10.8-acre green space along Harrisburg Boulevard has seen generations of locals enjoying its grounds and facilities. It's one of those places where memories have been made for decades - a true local retreat.

The 1970s brought a wave of revitalization to the park, with significant upgrades to the Eastwood Community Center and other facilities throughout the grounds. The park's thoughtful design didn't go unnoticed either - in 1982, the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects awarded Eastwood Park with an Award of Distinguished Achievement for its positive impact on Houston's urban environment.

Vision for the Future

Eastwood Park isn't resting on its historic laurels. A comprehensive master plan was completed in 2022, representing a true community effort between the Harrisburg Redevelopment Authority, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and neighborhood residents. This collaborative blueprint maps out exciting changes coming to this treasured space.

What's Coming Soon

The first wave of improvements is on the horizon, scheduled to begin in late 2024 and wrap up by early 2028. You'll soon see a brand-new expanded play area, an exciting skate park for wheeled enthusiasts, and revamped basketball courts. The old baseball field will transform into a versatile open space that can accommodate a variety of activities. New walking paths, comfortable seating areas, shade structures (a must in that Texas heat!), improved lighting, thoughtful landscaping, and better drainage are all part of this initial phase.

Looking further ahead, Phase II promises even more community-centered additions. Plans include a modern, well-equipped community center, inviting outdoor gathering spaces, a refreshing new swimming pool, and additional parking to accommodate more visitors. The existing community center won't go to waste - it's set to be incorporated into the new swimming pool area, blending the park's past with its future.
