About the Location
Natural Landscape
Nestled between the Fern Bluff and Stone Canyon neighborhoods in Round Rock, Texas, Cheatham Park stretches across nearly 8 acres of diverse terrain. This pocket of nature offers a refreshing blend of wild spaces and recreational areas for everyone to enjoy.
Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the park is the Fern Bluff Bat Cave, an environmentally protected area surrounded by wrought iron fencing. If you're into geology, you'll appreciate the nearby limestone shelf with its fascinating parallel surface fractures - a formation characteristic of the Austin area that tells a silent story of the region's natural history.
Trails and Accessibility
The trails at Cheatham Park feature both smooth concrete paths and natural crushed granite surfaces. These winding paths invite you to take a leisurely stroll, get in your daily jog, or simply pause and observe the local flora and fauna.
Getting to the park is a breeze, with multiple entry points scattered throughout the neighboring areas. You can access Cheatham from Wildwater Way, Mountain Mist, Ancona Trail, or West Magic Mountain Lane - so no matter which direction you're coming from, you're never too far from a pathway into this natural retreat.
History
The Fern Bluff Municipal Utility District (MUD) brought this park to life with some financial help from a Texas Parks & Wildlife grant.
The park bears the name of the Cheatham family, who served as Texas Rangers and left their mark on the state's colorful history. Their legacy lives on in this peaceful community space that bridges neighborhoods and provides a connection to nature.
