About the Location
Geology That Rocks
Perched on an incredibly steep section of the Wasatch fault zone, Faultline Park offers some pretty sweet views of downtown Salt Lake City. This park literally sits on a geological feature that gave it its name.
If you're into the whole "how our planet was formed" thing, you'll appreciate the visible reminder of the powerful forces that have been shaping the Salt Lake Valley for millions of years. The park is a natural classroom where you can spot interesting geological features while you're catching your breath from the climb up.
Impressive City Views
The panoramic view of the Salt Lake City skyline is what really draws people here. From this elevated position, you can see the urban landscape spread out below.
The sunset views are especially magical. There's something peaceful about watching day turn to evening with the city lights gradually twinkling to life beneath you. Several benches face directly toward the skyline, creating perfect spots to sit, reflect, or snap that perfect photo.
Art Meets Nature
Adding a touch of human creativity to the natural setting, the park features a 1983 steel sculpture overlooking the city. This artistic element complements the rugged landscape, creating an interesting contrast between the manufactured and the natural.
Small Park, Big Fun
Despite its compact size (blame that steep terrain!), Faultline Park squeezes in a small playground with swings that face the city. Imagine pushing your kid on a swing with that view stretching out before you - a unique playground experience.
The picnic area is equally thoughtful in its design, with benches positioned to maximize those gorgeous views. Pack a sandwich and enjoy probably one of the most scenic lunch spots in the city.
A Local Favorite
This little park is a pleasant outdoor space where locals and visitors alike can relax and recharge. Its somewhat hidden location creates a peaceful atmosphere despite being so close to downtown.
As evening approaches, you'll often find people gathering to watch the sunset paint the sky in brilliant colors over the city. While it's not huge or fancy, there's a quiet charm to this place that makes it special - a little pocket of tranquility amid the urban bustle.
Before You Go
Note that the street leading to the park features an extremely steep hill - we're talking seriously steep. Take it slow whether you're driving or walking up. The view at the top is worth the careful navigation, but your brakes (or legs) will thank you for the heads-up.
