About the Location
A Playground Built by the Community
In July 2022, Miami Park got a major facelift with a new playground that wasn't just built for the community - it was designed by it too. This wasn't your typical city project; it was a heartwarming collaboration between Salt Lake City, the Pure Good Foundation, and KABOOM! (a national non-profit that works to bring play spaces to neighborhoods that need them most).
What makes this playground special? Local kids and residents actually got to share their playground dreams during a design day back in May 2022. Then, over 100 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and brought those ideas to life, creating a space that reflects the neighborhood's input.
What You'll Find at the Park
Miami Park offers some nice open grassy areas where you can toss a frisbee or just stretch out with a book. Just a heads-up though - you might encounter some thorny plants scattered throughout the grass in certain sections. And if you're planning a long visit, bring your own water bottle! The park doesn't currently have drinking fountains, which is especially important to remember during those scorching Utah summer days.
The park's maintenance can be a bit hit-or-miss, with some areas showing their age more than others. If you're bringing bikes, you might want to stick to the paved paths to avoid any surprise flat tires from those thorny plants.
Heart of the Neighborhood
At its core, Miami Park aims to be a safe, welcoming gathering spot for everyone in the Westpointe neighborhood. The refreshed playground serves hundreds of local children and their families, offering a place where kids can burn off energy, make new friends, and where the community can come together. The park functions as a place where local children play and community members can gather.
