About the Location

History and Background

Ben Brenman Park is a 59-acre public park located in the West End of Alexandria, Virginia. The park was established on the former site of the U.S. Army's Cameron Station, which was decommissioned in the late 1980s.

It was named in honor of Colonel Ben Brenman, a long-time Alexandria community activist who played a key role in acquiring the parkland for the city.

Natural Features

A central focal point is a small lake with a surrounding walking path, providing visitors with a scenic spot for strolls and wildlife observation. Turtles and various bird species can often be seen around the water.

Sports and Recreation

For sports enthusiasts, Ben Brenman Park offers several athletic fields, including a synthetic turf rectangular field that can be used for soccer and other field sports, as well as baseball and softball fields. These fields are equipped with lighting, allowing for extended use into the evening hours.

Families with children can enjoy the park's playground, which provides a safe and fun environment for young visitors. The park also includes a fenced dog area, giving pet owners a designated space to let their dogs run off-leash.

Amenities and Facilities

For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the park provides picnic areas with tables and grills, perfect for outdoor gatherings and community events. An amphitheater in the park serves as a venue for various performances and community activities.

Ben Brenman Park is well-connected to the surrounding area, with walking and bicycle trails that link to the wider Alexandria trail network. The park's accessibility is further enhanced by ample parking facilities and its proximity to public transportation options.
