About the Location
Natural Features
Clermont Natural Park is a 5.15-acre forested natural area located in Alexandria, Virginia. The park serves as a natural easement adjoining the larger Clermont Swamp Forest to the east.
This urban green space provides a small but important habitat for local wildlife and native plant species. The park consists primarily of forested wetlands, preserving remnants of bottomland forest vegetation.
History and Ecology
The park has a history of being used as an unofficial city dump decades ago. As a result, it is somewhat smaller and less floristically diverse than the neighboring Clermont Swamp Forest.
Despite its past, it still plays a vital role as a natural area connector and wildlife habitat in Alexandria's urban environment.
Visitor Information
The park is open from 6AM to 9PM daily. Visitors can explore its wooded areas and experience a slice of nature within the urban landscape.
The park's natural setting makes it suitable for activities like bird watching, nature observation, and short walks through the forested terrain.
