About the Location
Skate Park Features
At the heart of this Richmond hangout is a skate park that's become a go-to spot for local riders. After a 2021 renovation, the layout is more compact than before but still offers the essentials - two quarter pipes, a small half pipe, and some rails on concrete.
It's nothing fancy, but it gets the job done if you're looking to practice some tricks. You should know that this isn't just for skateboarders - BMX bikes with Gyro, non-motorized scooters, in-line skates, and even Heelys are welcome here.
Just be prepared for some rough patches - the concrete has definitely seen better days, with a few uneven spots and cracks to navigate around.
Safety Guidelines
No surprise here, but helmets are non-negotiable when you're riding. While you're at it, consider gearing up with wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads too.
The park operates on that classic "skate at your own risk" philosophy, so staying safe is really up to you.
Sports Facilities
The park extends well beyond the skate zone. If team sports are more your thing, you'll discover athletic fields that host everything from baseball and softball to soccer and football - well-suited for pickup games or scheduled practices.
Kids have their own space too, with a playground area featuring swings and the usual climbing equipment. It's generally kept clean and provides a solid spot for little ones to burn off some energy while older siblings might be skating nearby.
Relaxation Areas
Not feeling particularly athletic today? There are also spaces to relax. There's a picnic shelter that's well-suited for lunch breaks or small gatherings when you need a bit of shade.
The open play areas give you room to toss a frisbee, fly a kite, or just sprawl out with a good book. And yes, your four-legged friends are welcome - the park is dog-friendly, however you'll want to keep them leashed and clean up after them.
Amenities
Let's be honest about the facilities - they're basic. Restrooms consist of portable toilets, which do the job but aren't winning any awards for luxury.
There's also a concession area where you might grab a snack or drink, depending on when you visit (hours can be hit or miss).
Community Hub
On any given day, you might see skaters sharing tips, families picnicking, teams practicing, and neighbors walking their dogs - all sharing this versatile space.
It's not the fanciest park in Richmond, but it accommodates different interests and age groups.
