About the Location

Park Overview

Spanning 7 acres along the shores of Lake Washington, Meydenbauer Bay Park offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The park's history dates back to the 1930s when it was first established by King County, later becoming part of the City of Bellevue in 1953.

In 2019, the park underwent a significant expansion and renovation, enhancing its features and accessibility.

Waterfront Features

The redesign included the addition of a 420-foot-long curved pedestrian pier that extends into the bay, providing visitors with panoramic views of the lake and surrounding landscape. This pier also serves as a hand-carry boat launch for non-motorized watercraft.

The park features a large public swimming beach with a designated swimming area, which is supervised by lifeguards during the summer months. Adjacent to the beach, visitors can find a modern beach house equipped with restrooms, changing rooms, and a lifeguard station.

Amenities and Activities

For families, there's a children's playground area designed to blend with the natural surroundings. Walking paths and trails wind through the park, offering opportunities for leisurely strolls and nature observation.

The park's landscape includes grassy areas ideal for picnicking and relaxation, as well as native plantings that support local ecosystems.

Water Recreation

For water enthusiasts, the park houses a boathouse operated in partnership with REI, offering kayak, canoe, and stand-up paddleboard rentals. This facility also provides classes and guided tours, allowing visitors to explore Lake Washington's waters safely.

Urban Connection

The park serves as an important link between Bellevue's bustling downtown area and its waterfront, providing residents and visitors alike with a tranquil escape and a connection to nature within an urban setting.

Meydenbauer Bay Park incorporates elements of its natural environment, including a restored shoreline and a daylighted stream channel.
