About the Location
A Little Waterfront Haven
Tucked away along Seattle's waterways, West Ewing Mini Park might be small in size, but it offers a remarkably tranquil setting. This pocket-sized green space sits near W Ewing St., offering a breath of fresh air between the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Seattle Pacific University.
The park keeps things simple with a grassy area and an elevated concrete overlook equipped with benches - meant for gazing out at the canal. There's also a picnic table available if you're looking to enjoy lunch outdoors, but you might need to time your visit right as it tends to be a hot commodity.
Local Favorite Hangout
You'll often spot Seattle Pacific University students with their textbooks spread out or nearby factory workers enjoying their lunch breaks here. The park has become something of an informal campus extension and workplace retreat rolled into one.
The uninterrupted views of the Ship Canal make this spot particularly special - there's something meditative about watching boats glide by on the water. Dog owners in the neighborhood also appreciate having this little patch of green for quick walks with their four-legged friends.
If you're interested in getting on the water yourself, there's a dock for launching boats, but you'll need to get an access code from Seattle Pacific University first.
Nature in the City
The waterfront location attracts some local wildlife, especially geese that seem to consider the park their personal lounge area. They add character to the place, but be mindful where you step!
Even on Seattle's signature gray days, the views here remain gorgeous. The way the clouds hang over the canal gives the scene a moody, distinctly Pacific Northwest vibe.
Urban Escape
What this park lacks in size, it makes up for in atmosphere. Sitting here for just fifteen minutes can feel like a much longer break from city life. The gentle sounds of water lapping against the shore and the distant hum of boats create a surprisingly peaceful soundtrack right in the middle of the city.
Temporary Closure Note
As of July 2020, both the park and its adjacent parking lot were scheduled for temporary closure due to the Ship Canal Water Quality Project. This infrastructure work aims to improve water quality in the area - a worthy cause, even if it means waiting a bit to enjoy this cozy location.
