About the Location
Park Overview
Positioned in a cozy residential neighborhood of Spokane Valley, Washington, Edgecliff Park spans a modest 4.74 acres but packs in plenty of charm. It's a popular outdoor spot for nearby residents and visitors to the area. One thing you'll notice right away? The gorgeous mature trees that create natural canopies around the park - excellent for escaping the summer heat when temperatures climb.
The layout strikes a nice balance between open green spaces where you can spread out a blanket and more developed areas for activities. Whether you're looking for an energetic afternoon or just a peaceful spot to unwind, the park accommodates different needs throughout the seasons.
Water Features
When the weather warms up, the park's splash pad becomes a major attraction. Running from May 15 through October 15 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.), it offers a wonderful cool-down solution without having to trek to a pool or lake. Parents of little ones will appreciate that this splash pad is gentler than others around Spokane Valley - making it an ideal spot for toddlers taking their first splashy steps into water play.
Recreation Facilities
The playground features modern equipment that keeps kids entertained. You'll come across slides for the thrill-seekers, swings (including smaller ones for toddlers), a bridge for imaginary adventures, a fire pole for junior firefighters, and monkey bars for the climbers. The bark material underfoot adds an extra layer of safety for those inevitable tumbles.
Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten either. The park houses a baseball diamond where future MVPs can practice their skills, a basketball court for pickup games, and a dual-purpose tennis and pickleball court that's seen increasing action as pickleball's popularity continues to surge. The open grassy areas also make great impromptu fields for everything from volleyball matches to frisbee tournaments or just running around with your four-legged friend.
Amenities
Planning a gathering? The park's covered picnic shelter comes with electricity - handy for everything from birthday celebrations to family reunions. With about 20 picnic tables scattered within the park (most under cover), and several BBQ grills open for public use, you've got all the makings of an excellent outdoor meal.
Practical needs are covered too, with restroom facilities housed in a cinder block building designed with perforations that let natural light filter in. The park also features a thoughtful drinking fountain that serves both humans and pets, so no one goes thirsty. And with 40 parking spaces available, finding a spot for your vehicle is rarely an issue.
Surrounding Area
One of the coolest things about Edgecliff's location is that it sits right across from the Dishman Hills Conservation Area. This makes it a convenient jumping-off point if you're looking to extend your outdoor adventure onto the many hiking trails that wind through the natural area. Just a heads-up though - the intersection near the park can get busy, so take care when crossing if you're heading to the trails.
The park itself is typically well-kept, with regular maintenance keeping both the grounds and facilities in good shape. The welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere makes it a popular gathering place for locals to enjoy picnics, games, and the splash pad.
