About the Location

Park History

Baltimore Park is a neighborhood park located in Tacoma, Washington. Established in 1981, this 2.68-acre green space serves the recreational needs of local residents. The park was created as part of a city initiative to address the lack of adequate parks and playgrounds in certain areas of Tacoma during the 1970s.

The park's development was a community effort, with significant contributions from volunteers, including members of the United Steelworkers of America Local 25. These volunteers helped install various facilities, including picnic areas, playground equipment, and sports infrastructure.

Improvements and Features

In 2010, Baltimore Park underwent improvements funded by a 2005 bond measure. These enhancements included upgrading the walking trail, expanding the soccer field, and adding new landscaping with native plants.

The park now features a mix of recreational facilities catering to different age groups and interests.

Community Connection

Baltimore Park is situated next to the Point Defiance-Ruston Senior Center, which serves as an activity hub for neighborhood seniors. This proximity adds to the park's role as a multi-generational community space.
