A Bit of History

Situated in Tacoma, Washington, Baltimore Park has been a green space for locals since 1981. This cozy 2.68-acre space came to life during a time when Tacoma was actively working to fill the park gaps in various neighborhoods throughout the 1970s.

The park's development had significant community involvement. It wasn't just city planners making decisions - local volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help, with members of the United Steelworkers of America Local 25 pitching in to install picnic areas, playground equipment, and sports facilities. Talk about neighborhood teamwork!

Getting Better with Age

Like a fine wine, Baltimore Park improved with time. In 2010, thanks to funding from a 2005 bond measure, the park received some well-deserved TLC. The walking trail got an upgrade, the soccer field expanded its boundaries, and new landscaping featuring native plants brought fresh life to the grounds.

The park's layout centers around a large grassy meadow that offers plenty of breathing room for whatever activity strikes your fancy. A nicely maintained walking path winds through the park, excellent for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll through green surroundings.

What's There to Do?

If you're bringing the little ones, they'll appreciate the playground area with its swings and small slide/climbing structure designed with younger visitors in mind. For the more athletically inclined, basketball courts await your best shots - and these versatile courts have been adapted for pickleball enthusiasts too.

Feeling hungry after all that play? Picnic tables are scattered within the grounds, offering perfect spots to enjoy an outdoor meal or simply sit and chat with friends. It's this mix of options that makes the park work for different needs and moods.

One cool aspect of Baltimore Park is its location next to the Point Defiance-Ruston Senior Center. This proximity creates a natural multi-generational community space where people of all ages can enjoy the outdoors.
