Optimist Park

A Glimpse of Tacoma History

Positioned in the west end of Tacoma, Optimist Park has been serving the neighborhood since 1957. This modest 3-acre green space came to life thanks in part to the Optimists Club, a community-minded bunch who helped acquire and develop the land. It's a little piece of local history right in the residential heart of Tacoma.

Finding Your Way

You'll come across Optimist Park along N James St in Tacoma's 98406 area, offering a welcome patch of green among the residential streets. The gates are open from 6AM to 10PM daily, giving you plenty of time to enjoy what it has to offer. If you position yourself just right, you might catch a glimpse of the Tacoma Narrows Suspension Bridge stretching across the water in the distance - a little visual treat for visitors.

What's On Offer

Bring your mitt and ball to make use of the baseball field, complete with a fence behind home plate. There's also a generous open field area that's well-suited for everything from casual frisbee games to impromptu soccer matches.

Fancy a game of pickup basketball? The basketball court is available for shooting hoops with friends or neighbors.

Kids will gravitate toward the playground, but it's worth noting that equipment condition can vary. When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas where you can spread out and enjoy a meal in the fresh air.

At its heart, Optimist Park is what a community park should be - a place where locals come together. It's nothing flashy, just a clean, spacious environment where families can let kids play while enjoying some outdoor time.
