About the Location
History and Origins
Established back in 1971, this green sanctuary was named after John and Margrette Coop, early settlers who put down roots in the Vancouver area long ago.
At about 6 acres in size, this modest community park offers local residents a welcome patch of nature for getting outside and enjoying some fresh air.
What You'll Find Here
The landscape mixes open grassy fields with mature trees, so you can spread out a blanket in the sunshine or hunker down in the shade with a good book, depending on your mood.
Kids gravitate toward the playground, complete with a swing set and equipment that works for little ones and older children alike. It's nothing fancy, but it does the job when the young ones need to burn off some energy.
There's also a basketball court with hoops where you can shoot around or jump into an impromptu game if others are around.
Just a heads up - you won't find any restrooms or rain shelters here, so plan accordingly if you're thinking of spending more than an hour or two.
Getting Active
Simple walking paths meander through the grounds, well-suited for a casual stroll or a quick bit of exercise. Many neighbors bring their four-legged friends along for walks, although remember your pup needs to stay on-leash at all times.
Packing a lunch? There's exactly one picnic table available - which means you might want to bring a blanket as backup if someone beats you to it.
Good to Know
This little park is where neighbors often cross paths and occasionally gather for small events. It's nothing spectacular, but it provides a nice green space in the neighborhood.
Since there's no dedicated parking lot, you'll need to find street parking nearby. And if you're bringing children, keep in mind that the park borders streets on multiple sides - something to be aware of when the little ones are running around.
