Lakeside Getaway

Tucked along the shores of Lake Mendota, Beach Park is a cozy 1.012-acre piece of paradise in Madison, Wisconsin. This spot provides a nice place for a day by the water, with beautiful sunset views of Madison's capitol building in the distance.

Take a Dip

The park's sandy beach comes complete with a designated swimming area marked by swim ropes to keep everyone safe. One of the highlights here is definitely the swimming platform - well-suited for those who want to swim out, sunbathe, or maybe show off their diving skills.

Unlike some of Madison's shallower beaches, Beach Park offers deeper waters that make for a more satisfying swim. Sometimes lifeguards are on duty who help keep things clean and safe, but don't count on them always being there. The beach typically welcomes swimmers from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, which is also when regular water quality testing happens.

What You'll Find There

Need a place to change or use the bathroom? The park's beach house includes two unisex bathrooms and a water bottle filling station. It's climate-controlled too, offering a retreat from summer heat or unexpected chills. If you visit when the shelter's closed, don't worry - portable toilets are usually available.

The stone patio and fire pit create perfect spots for hanging out with friends or family, while scattered picnic tables invite you to enjoy lunch with a view. Cyclists will appreciate the thoughtful addition of a bike repair station - so very Madison!

Beyond Swimming

When you're ready to dry off, the park offers plenty of other activities. Challenge a friend on one of the two tennis courts (which double as pickleball courts for the paddle-sport enthusiasts). If you've got kids in tow, the well-maintained playground area provides climbing structures and swings in a nicely shaded spot. The 4-seat swing set is a hit with families.

Fancy getting out on the water? The boat launch area makes it easy to get your kayak or canoe into Lake Mendota. This feature has made the park a favorite among fishing enthusiasts, with some pretty decent catches reported just offshore.

The Vibe

Set in a quiet residential neighborhood, Beach Park offers a peaceful lakeside experience without the crowds of larger parks. The grounds are well-kept and clean, making it an inviting spot to spend a few hours. It's also excellent for a breather during a long walk along the lake.

Good to Know

You should note that while your four-legged friends are welcome in most of the park (on leash), dogs aren't allowed on the sand or in the roped swim area. And if you're bringing flotation devices, remember that only US Coast Guard-approved lifejackets are permitted in the swimming area.
