About Brittingham Park
Park Overview
Nestled along Monona Bay in Madison, Wisconsin, Brittingham Park spans 25.81 acres of diverse recreational space. This community park is split into several unique areas, each with its own character and offerings. One of the best things about this spot? The stunning views of Lake Monona and the Wisconsin State Capitol that create a great backdrop for your outdoor adventures.
Accessible Playground
Head to 829 W. Washington Avenue and you'll discover an accessible playground situated near a reservable shelter and open fields. Opened in 2017, this playground broke new ground as Madison's first city-owned barrier-free play space. What makes it special is how it's designed for children of all cognitive levels and abilities to play without limitations.
The playground features molded merry-go-round seats, a spongy rubber floor that's gentle on falls, and play panels focused on developing motor, audio, and visual skills. The playground has numerous climbing elements and an obstacle course designed for kids up to age 12.
If your children want variety, there's a second playground across the field, and even a nature playground a short walk down the lake trail for a more rustic play experience.

If you're into fishing, Brittingham Park has you covered. The bass fishing is particularly good in early summer before aquatic plants become too dense. In winter, the frozen bay transforms into an ice fishing destination.
The walking paths offer lovely strolls with scenic views of Monona Bay. You'll also find a community garden complete with an interesting sculpture, where local green thumbs tend their plots. On hot summer days, you can enjoy cool lake breezes while exploring the park.
Amenities and Features
Fancy a cookout? The park offers several fire pits where you can bring your own wood, along with plenty of picnic tables scattered within the grounds. For larger gatherings, the main shelter can be reserved - it's a popular spot for family reunions and community events.
Public restrooms are conveniently located by the gazebo near the main playground and lake. While the park does have a dedicated lot, you might need to find street parking during busy times as spaces fill up quickly.
Cultural Features
