Park Overview

Tucked away on Madison's far east side, North Star Park is a sprawling 23.60-acre green sanctuary that acts as the neighborhood's outdoor living room. This community park is frequently visited by residents living within a 2-mile radius, offering a peaceful escape from the everyday routine.

As part of Madison's park system, North Star provides plenty of space with open areas suitable for picnic blankets, frisbee matches, kite flying, or simply lounging on the grass with a good book.

Recreational Offerings

If you're visiting with little ones, head to the playground that's ideal for toddlers and early elementary schoolers. The space features a small climbing wall and play structures that will keep younger children entertained while you catch a breath on a nearby bench.

Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten - the park houses a basketball court, spacious soccer fields, and a baseball diamond that accommodate everything from impromptu pickup games to organized weekend matches.

A highlight for dog owners is the 2-acre off-leash dog area where dogs can run free and socialize. The fenced enclosure includes some seating and waste bag stations to make visits convenient. Note that you'll need to register your pup with the city before using this area, and in other parts of the park, dogs should be kept on 6-foot leashes.

Facilities and Features

Accessibility is a priority at North Star, with wide walkways and paved paths meandering through the grounds. These smooth trails are great for strollers, wheelchairs, or those morning jogs when you need to clear your head.

A charming pergola provides a shaded gathering spot that's ideal for catching your breath or meeting up with neighbors on warm summer days.

While permanent restrooms aren't available (something to plan around), a porta-potty appears during the summer months when the park sees peak usage. You'll come across drinking water available year-round, so you can always refill your bottle during those longer visits.

The park's master plan received approval in July 2018, which means this already wonderful community space continues to evolve and improve. North Star is a community park where residents can enjoy outdoor activities together.
