Sunset Park

Park Overview

At just 1.5 acres, Sunset Park in Madison, Wisconsin is a cozy neighborhood space that functions as a sort of outdoor living room for locals. It might be small, but it offers several recreational options for anyone looking to get some fresh air.

It's also become something of a hotspot for birdwatching enthusiasts who appreciate its peaceful atmosphere.

Winter Wonderland

When the temperatures drop, Sunset Park transforms thanks to its volunteer-maintained ice rink. Part of the Adopt Ice Partnership program, this NiceRink® setup comes complete with a street light so you can still get your skate on after the sun goes down.

The clever above-ground, framed liner design means water freezes faster and stays frozen longer - giving you extra weeks to perfect those figure eights or hockey stops before spring arrives.

Get Your Game On

Basketball fans will appreciate the park's half-court basketball court with its asphalt surface - excellent for shooting hoops or playing a quick pickup game with neighbors.

Beyond the court, there's plenty of open space where you can toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball around, or just spread out a blanket and enjoy doing absolutely nothing at all. Sometimes that's exactly what you need, right?

Kid-Friendly Corner

If you've got little ones in tow, the playground area offers swings for those magical moments of childhood joy (you know, before they start asking for your phone). The sandbox comes stocked with construction toys for budding architects and engineers to build their miniature masterpieces.

When snack time rolls around or you just need a break, both picnic benches and regular sitting benches are scattered throughout, making it easy to settle in for lunch or just take a moment to watch the kids play.

With its thoughtful mix of amenities, Sunset Park manages to be that rare public space that works for everyone - no matter if you're six, sixteen, or sixty.
