Set on Madison's west side, Walnut Grove Park stretches across 20.25 acres. You'll come across it on N. Westfield Rd., with a handy alternative entrance near Farmington Way.

Kids absolutely love the play equipment here - there are plenty of swings and various playground structures that keep little ones entertained for hours. It's a go-to spot for families, but it's worth noting that the playground isn't fully accessible for children with mobility challenges.

The park has multiple soccer fields and softball fields (without dirt infields) that accommodate both organized leagues and impromptu games. The generous open spaces are great for frisbee tosses, picnic blankets, or just relaxing on a sunny day.

There's also a decent basketball court with an asphalt surface (no nighttime lighting, though) and tennis courts for those looking to work on their serve.

Dog-Friendly Area

Fur-parents, take note: Walnut Grove features a dedicated 1.17-acre dog off-leash area tucked into the back corner of the park. This fenced area comes equipped with bag dispensers and benches, providing space for your dog to run, play, and socialize.

Trails and Natural Areas

Craving a bit of nature? Head to the back side of the park, opposite the street entrance, where a charming wooded area awaits with numerous walking trails. These quiet paths provide a nice contrast to the more active areas of the park.

Future Developments

Exciting news for mountain biking enthusiasts: The Parks Division has plans to construct a 1-mile section of bike-optimized single-track trail in the park.
